Bodrum

Bodrum Why Bodrum is special
This Turkish port town is world renowned for its castle, museum, yachting, and ancient-seven-wonder site.

Bodrum tips and insights
Castle of St Peter
The citadel (in photo background above) was built by the Knights of St. John crusaders in the early 15th century. The castle is well preserved and offers picturesque panoramic views of Bodrum and its harbor.

Museum of Underwater Archaeology
This award-winning museum is located in the castle and exhibits historic objects recovered from the sea.

Yachting
Bodrum is celebrated for its wooden yachts called gulets (see photo above). Tourists book these full-crewed, broad-beamed boats for extended live-aboard sailing vacations along Turkey's beautiful Turquoise Coast.

Mausoleum of Halicarnassus
Only the foundation remains, but since this tomb is one of the original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, it's worth at least a brief visit. Click Mausoleum of Halicarnassus to read my dedicated page on it in the Seven Wonders of the World section of my website.

Other attractions
They include an ancient amphitheatre, hilltop white windmills, and a lively upscale party scene.
