Grenada tips & insights
Mispronunciation
Some travelers pronounce - and sometimes even spell - the name Grenada like the Spanish city Granada (grah-nah'-dah). The correct pronunciation for Grenada is gruh-nay'-dah.

Three islands
The Grenada nation comprises three main islands: Grenada, Carriacou, and Petit Martinique. The first is by far the largest. It's also the most populated and touristed. It will be the one I'll be referring to when I use the name "Grenada" below.

Grand Etang National Park
This scenic lush-tropical rainforest sprawls over Grenada's interior. Grand Etang has an abundance of wildlife and many trails for exploring. You'll discover waterfalls and a crater lake.

Beaches
There are several dozen. The most famous is the long, white-sand Grand Anse. It lies just south of St George, the capital.

Resorts
Most are concentrated in the St George area. Many line Grand Anse beach.

St George
Its port waterfront is one of the most picturesque in the Caribbean.

Cruise ships
They dock at the long pier in St George.

Diving and snorkeling
You'll find many underwater adventures, both in Grenada and the other islands.

Language
English is Grenada's official language. French is also spoken.

Nutmegs
Grenada is nicknamed the Spice Island. It produces nearly a third of the world's nutmegs. Cinnamon, cloves and ginger are also harvested in great quantities. You can tour the spice plantations to learn how the spices are grown and processed.

Island statistics
Grenada is 34 kilometers (21 miles) long and 19 kilometers (12 miles) at its maximum width. Residents number 110,000.
