Imperial War Museum
Why the Imperial War Museum is specialThe Imperial War Museum does not lionize combat but gives us insight into military tools and how hostilities affect the lives of military personnel and civilians. After visiting the Imperial War Museum, you will have a keener understanding of warfare.
Imperial War Museum has five branches
The London and North are the two interesting.
London Branch
This is the main branch (pictured on the left side of the photo). These three exhibits are among the highlights:
- Simulation of the sights, sounds and smells of trench fighting.
- Reenactment of what it was like to live through the World War II Blitz.
- A poignant presentation on the Holocaust.
It is in Manchester and, like the London Branch, covers a broad range of warfare subjects. Its modern building is shown on the right side of the picture.
The other three Imperial War Museum branches
HMS Belfast
Explore the many decks of this naval battleship. It's moored on the Thames River near London's Tower Bridge.
Churchill Museum and Cabinet War Rooms
You'll see the underground, supposedly bomb-proof chambers in London where the Prime Minister and his cabinet worked.
Duxford near Cambridge
The emphasis in this branch of the Imperial War Museum is on aviation and aerospace.
