Millau Bridge tips and insights
Measurements
The 7-piered Millau Bridge is 2.5 kilometers (1.5 miles) across. Its top rises 343 meters (1125 feet) about the Tarn River valley floor.
Function
It eliminates the traffic-jammed valley route on the motorway linking Paris with Barcelona, Spain. Before the viaduct was constructed, it could take summertime motorists an hour or more to traverse the valley. Now, they can do it in less than 2 minutes.
2005
The four-lane Millau Bridge opened in 2005 and can accommodate 25,000 vehicles per day.
Most eye-catching viewing time
It is dreamlike when morning fog creates the impression that it is floating on clouds.
